About the Stud

Our history

Established in the 1990s, Forestglen Alpaca Stud began at Dooralong on the Central Coast & relocated in 1999 to the high basalt Central Tablelands of NSW. What started as a few pets quickly turned into a labour of love & the herd today sits at ~150 alpacas.

Three generations of the Carey/Staples family have developed Forestglen: Maureen Carey (now retired), her daughter Jennie and Maureen's grand daughter Alex (with help from Jennie's husband Patrick and their son James as well).

Forestglen's breeding stock are built on the foundations of Purrumbete El Dorado (SMF), Purrumbete Inti (SMF) and Purrumbete Minty (SW). From the beginning, we have focused on fleece production & using elite males over females with excellent fleece, frame and mothering.

Our legacy

We have been fortunate to breed many championship awarded alpacas over the years. We credit our success to proven bloodlines that produce great progeny time and time again.

Without a doubt, our favourite show of the year is the Sydney Royal Easter Show (RES). Forestglen has been awarded Supreme fleece at Sydney RES eight times:

2017 – Ambersun Fortune of Monaco (SLF) [purchased the previous year]

2012 – Forestglen Marakesh (SW)

2011 – Forestglen Penzance (SW)

2010 – Forestglen Concerto (SW)

2008 – Forestglen Seth (SDF)

2005 – Forestglen Song of Joy (SW)

2003 – Forestglen Clancy (SLF)

2000 – Purrumbete Minty (SW) – her 5th fleece

4 of these supremes are females, retained exclusively in Forestglen’s herd.

We focus predominantly on white and fawn fleece production. Some notable fawn stud animals bred by Forestglen are:

  • Forestglen Tornado Kiss - Supreme Champion Alpaca at the 2022 Winter Wonderland Show & Best Medium/Dark Fawn Fleece at the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show. "Torn" will begin his stud duties at Forestglen in Autumn 2023.

  • Forestglen Illuminate – Best Medium Fawn at the 2018 Sydney Royal Easter Show, sold to Walkley Field Alpacas.

  • Forestglen Champagne Moment - Champion Medium Fawn Alpaca at the 2017 AAA National Show, sold to Beck Brow Alpacas, UK at the 2017 National Auction.
